(spoiler: i did not quit)

Ok, ok remember that one time I was like “waah I quit everything” and was feeling really sorry for myself about it? In the words of Michael Scott, “well, well, well…how the turntables…”

I did not quit, not due to my own willpower or positive thinking, far from it. I didn’t quit because something sort of crazy happened, which was that a stranger on the internet (who is now a friend!) shared a post I’d made a year ago, adding their own instrumentation to me singing in my kitchen, and then for some reason, the algorithm decided it was a worthy endeavor and my account grew literally for the first time in about five or six years. Suddenly there are many, many more eyes on me. Which, naturally, creates the instinct to freeze and flee, but I promise I’m working to not do those things, at least not permanently.

Anyway, here we are, un-quit. The world feels loud and scary, so I’m looking to fill The Birdhouse–which is what I call my home–with evidence of beauty through art in all ways. Here are some beautiful things lately:

What I’m listening to:
My buddy Quinn is one of the most prolific and conscientious people I’ve ever known. One of his current projects is Seabreather, and while I wait for the new EP, I’m listening to his release from 2022, Impermanence In Light. Stylistically, Seabreather is this rich, atmospheric blanket of instrumental intensity, cinematic like you can almost see it unfold as you listen. Would recommend 10/10.

What I’m working on:
I decided to pick up my paintbrush after a few years–I had an idea for an oil painting, so I’m sort of rolling with it. Is there a lot of meaning behind it right now? Not sure. But is it purple, does it have a bird skull, and does it have a monochrome disco ball at the top? Sure does.

What I’m reading:
Just finished a book that absolutely ripped my heart apart, Chain-Gang All Stars by Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah. It’s a dystopian not-so-distant future, an evolution of the American prison system told in a way that is tender, human, brutal, and piercing.

Lemme know what you’re up to,
